With the commissioning of the SuperChargy stations at the Capellen rest areas (A6) in both directions and at the Berchem rest areas (A3) in both directions, Luxembourg’s motorway network is now ready to recharge those travelling around the country in electric cars. Six ultra-fast charging points with charging powers of up to 350kW will be operational at each of the above-mentioned sites. Private initiatives have meant that Luxembourg now offers an average of one ultra-fast charging station every 20km on its major roads, with ultra-fast charging sites installed near motorway interchanges, meaning that holidaymakers driving through Luxembourg in electric cars will have one less thing to worry about. Although this will encourage foreigners to come to Luxembourg to recharge their vehicles, “the number of charging points planned for motorway service areas appears to be somewhat insufficient in the medium term. The ACL’s experts believe that more ambitious projects must be implemented in order to ensure hassle-free recharging at our motorway service areas”, explains Antonio Da Palma, Head of Mobility at the ACL. As a reminder, a total of 88 ultra-fast charging points will be installed across 19 stations and service areas on the main roads around the Grand Duchy. Network operator Creos will be installing the SuperChargy charging points across the country into 2023, the aim being to supplement the various other Chargy public AC charging terminals installed elsewhere with charging capacities of up to 22kW and to offer rapid charging for long-distance journeys.
