The Cybex Anoris T i-Size was the only seat tested to receive a ‘very good’ rating in this test performed by the ACL and partner clubs. Suitable for children from 0.76m to 1.25m, it has a built-in airbag offering a very good level of protection against frontal and lateral impact and is also easy to use. Twenty-one of the seats we tested received a ‘good’ rating, while six models were rated ‘satisfactory’. It should also be noted that these seats more than met the current legal requirements since the manufacturers had taken into account the more stringent requirements of consumer protection associations. Four of the models were rated ‘unsatisfactory’ and are therefore not recommended. The fabrics used to cover the Lionelo Antoon RWF and the Walser Kids Experts Noemi were full of potentially carcinogenic flame retardants, while the upholstery fabric on the Urban Kanga Uptown Model TV107 was also found to be contaminated with flame retardants and the seat failed the lateral impact test. With regard to the Kinderkraft Comfort Up, the back support should be removed to protect older children as it fails to offer sufficient protection in the event of a lateral impact.
Not all child seats fit into cars in the same way. Parents and children also often have different preferences, too, which is why it’s important to do your research before you buy a seat. It’s best to take both your car and your children to the shop with you so that you can try out the models available before you buy. All our child seats tests are available under the Tests & Advice web area.
