History of ACL

In 1932, a group of car drivers founded the Automobile Club Luxembourg to defend their interests, with premises at 11 avenue de la Porte Neuve, 2227 Ville-Haute Luxembourg.

  • 1933
    First edition of Autotouring magazine
  • 1938
    The ACL is organising the Centenary Grand Prix on the Nai Duerf Kalchesbreck circuit to celebrate the centenary of independence.
  • 1955
    Introduction of repatriation cover in the event of an accident abroad
  • 1960
    ACL Club Assistance was created through cooperation between AIT and FIA until 2006.
  • 1966
    Signature of the European partnership contract for the "International Assistance Booklet", offering various forms of assistance including repatriation and accident cover.
  • 1969
    20,000 members are registered with ACL, benefiting from legal advice and the new technical intervention service.
  • 1970
    Launch of the breakdown service using second-hand cars transformed into breakdown trucks or service vehicles. Within a year, membership increased by 20%, rapidly reaching 37,000 breakdown repairs a year.
  • 1972
    Various member assistance services have been added, such as a replacement car.
  • ACL continues to grow ...

    • 1973: ACL-Services et voyage founded. Nine staff work in the Welcome and Advice department, becoming a popular service for car drivers.
    • 1974: The road and breakdown service is moved to Bertrange, unlike the offices, which are moved 16 years later.
    • 1978: Creation of the Amicale des Véhicules Historiques, aimed at defending the interests of classic car owners.
    • 1979: The ACL now has 50,000 members. The first “Luxembourg Prize” for historic cars is organised on the Goodyear circuit.

Evolution and expansion

2014 : ACL and SNCT begin cooperation on tests involving historic vehicles.

From 2017 to 2019: Launch of new services: Assistance Home, Assistance Pets, Mobility Loft, Bike Assistance.

2019: ACL now has 185,000 members and becomes the most popular association in Luxembourg.

ACL Karting

  • 2021: ACL acquires the Mondercange karting site and launches the Maison du Cycliste as well as the Maison du Motard.

Come and enjoy the Mondercange go-karting site, where our karts for children and adults are waiting for you to hire with your family, friends or colleagues. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, discover an outdoor circuit 867 metres long and 7 to 8 metres wide, where internationally renowned drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Jarno Trulli have also competed.

ACL Ingeldorf

  • 2022: Opening ofa 2nd branchin Ingeldorf.

In Ingeldorf, you’ll find all the usual ACL services: signing up for a new membership card, selling Bip&Go vignettes and season tickets, drawing up personalised itineraries, tourism services with our member trips, car hire, etc. Only the ACL Diagnostic Center and its technical facilities remain available exclusively at our Bertrange site.
