All-season tyres (or 4-season tyres) are becoming increasingly popular due to their practical properties. However, it is important to understand that this type of tyre is a compromise.

In winter, they perform less well than a real winter tyre and in summer they perform less well than a summer tyre. However, all-season tyres are an alternative for drivers who can do without their car when driving conditions become difficult. Their main advantage is that you don’t have to change them depending on the season and you don’t have to store winter or summer wheels. Furthermore, in Luxembourg, all-season tyres marked ‘M&S’ are legally considered winter tyres. We explain everything you need to know about tyres in our brochures (in French).

In our 2020 test, 16 all-season tyre models in the 205/55 R16 size were evaluated. Here is a detailed summary of the results for each tyre tested.

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3
The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 achieved an overall score of 2.4 and excelled in its performance on wet and snowy roads. However, it showed weaknesses on dry summer roads, with only satisfactory steering response. In terms of durability, it offers a long-awaited lifespan, low abrasion and good fuel efficiency.

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2
The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 is the only tyre with a good rating for driving safety, performing well on dry, wet and winter roads. It received an overall rating of 2.7. However, its expected lifespan is the lowest in the test and its high weight affects its fuel efficiency.

Our conclusion

The 2024 all-season tyre test shows that there is no tyre that excels in all areas. The Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 stands out for its balance between driving safety and environmental performance, while the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF2 offers the best driving safety. Drivers should choose their tyres according to their driving profile and priorities, be it safety, sustainability or energy efficiency.
