BMW i5 M60 Touring
BMW continues the feat of offering the same model with different powertrains. The i5 Touring is available as a 100% electric vehicle, but also as a plug-in hybrid, gasoline, and diesel. The “M” version is only available with pure electrification and plug-in hybrid.
The Ultimate Wagon
What elegance! Its long nose, illuminated grille, and sleek, almost endless look leave no one indifferent. The BMW i5 M60 Touring is the ultimate premium wagon, combining performance, aesthetics, and technology in many ways.
When driving, the electric wagon impresses with its sophisticated chassis. Thanks to its controlled air suspension and rear-wheel steering, it feels light despite its 2,425 kg. The chassis is designed to withstand the stresses of the two electric motors and the 83.9 kWh battery pack. This configuration allows for optimal weight distribution and increased stability even at high speeds. The four-wheel steering (Integral Active) improves responsiveness and precision when maneuvering. Additionally, the M Sport brakes provide strong and consistent braking performance. The chassis combines robustness and agility, offering a dynamic and safe driving experience. The vehicle is also equipped with the Adaptive M Professional suspension, which enhances handling and driving comfort with electronically controlled dampers and integral active steering.
Under the hood, the car is a real eye-catcher. With two electric motors on the front and rear axles delivering an impressive 601 hp (442 kW) and 820 Nm of torque, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.
5% to 80% in just 27 minutes
Of course, this comes at a cost. While BMW claims a range of 445 km (WLTP), the reality is different. Not that the Munich manufacturer is too optimistic, but it is difficult to drive eco-consciously with such a vehicle. The car naturally invites you to accelerate. The range then melts like snow in the sun. As with all electric BMWs, there is a mode that puts the car in economy mode to save a few precious kilometers. The top speed of the BMW i5 M60 Touring is electronically limited to 230 km/h.
Therefore, fast charging is required. With direct current (DC), the car can handle a charge of 350 kW to replenish its 84.3 kWh battery (usable capacity) from 5% to 80% in just 27 minutes and reach a full charge in 55 minutes. With alternating current (AC), it takes less than 10 hours to charge from 0 to 100%.
The interior is a concentration of technology. The Iconic Sound creates a special atmosphere. The dashboard is dominated by a curved 12.3-inch screen for the driver and a 14.9-inch central screen, both running on the BMW Operating System 8.5.
In terms of safety, the BMW i5 M60 Touring makes no compromises. It is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, such as the Active Driving Assistant, which includes front collision warning, blind spot detection, and lane-keeping assist. At BMW, all these aids are breathtakingly precise, extremely intuitive, and easy to use.
Finally, this wagon offers a generous trunk volume of 570 liters, which can be expanded to 1,700 liters by folding down the rear seats. Although the trunk provides ample space, it is a pity that the storage for the charging cable is quite small.
The BMW i5 M60 Touring is the perfect fusion of performance and high quality. As the first fully electric touring model from BMW M, it makes a big impact in the luxury wagon segment. Naturally, such success comes at a price: starting at 108,200.80 euros. With some options, the bill can quickly exceed 130,000 euros. However, it is possible to opt for a less radical model like the i5 eDrive40 Touring, starting at 73,777.70 euros.
Pros:
- Its design
- Power and speed
- Interior finish
Cons:
- Narrow storage for the charging cable
- Very high price
