Lotus Emeya

Between heritage and innovation

Following on from the iconic Evija hypercar and the daring Eletre SUV, Lotus now brings us the Emeya, its third 100% electric model in the form of a Hyper GT saloon.

Combining high performance with the practical aspects of a refined saloon, the Emeya is not the first of its kind from Lotus… We remember the legendary Lotus Omega, which made its mark in the 1990s with its super-powerful 377 bhp twin-turbocharged in-line 6-cylinder engine. The Emeya takes its inspiration from that car and looks to the future with electric all-wheel drive.

A permeable line…

The Emeya stands out for its elegant, exclusive line, capable of seducing the hedonist in search of individuality. Its sporty silhouette, which stretches to just over 5 metres, adopts the stylistic codes of the Eletre and gives it a resolutely aggressive look. On close inspection, it’s clear that aerodynamics were at the heart of its design. Its fluid, complex lines are based on the concept of ‘permeability’, evoking the multiple air intakes integrated into the front and rear of its bodywork. This highly individual style gives it an imposing presence on the road.

High-quality, luxurious interior

Stepping inside reveals a unique environment offering generous space for all occupants and a clever blend of cutting-edge technology and top-of-the-range finishes. Covered in luxurious materials such as leather, Alcantara and carbon fibre, the cabin exudes sophistication, quality and comfort. As a good electric car, the Emeya puts the emphasis on digital screens, with a large 15.1-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard and two slim rectangular screens dedicated to the driver and passenger. Ergonomics are quite good, with a few physical buttons for strategic controls, but could be improved, particularly in terms of the audio volume control on the central screen and the impractical steering wheel controls. Electric heart

Equipped with electric motors on its front and rear axles, the Emeya offers all-wheel drive with a base power of 612 bhp for the entry-level model, rising to 918 bhp for the top R version. Behind the wheel, you’ll discover exceptional roadholding, especially when it’s fitted with pilot-controlled air suspension and rear-wheel steering, offering high levels of stability and comfort. This ‘mechanical’ package delivers fire-breathing performance that validates its status as a hyper GT saloon. However, some improvements would be desirable, such as the regenerative braking, which has a limited adjustment range and does not offer the ‘one-pedal’ mode that many drivers appreciate. On the other hand, the Emeya impresses when it comes to fast charging, with power reaching up to 400 kW at peak and more than 300 kW on average. By entering the highly competitive segment of high-performance electric saloons, the Emeya R competes directly with benchmarks such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and the Tesla Model S Plaid. It is therefore a plausible and attractive option for enthusiasts looking for power, elegance and individuality.
